Avoid giving the below listed nuts to your dogs: Almonds Dogs love the taste of almonds, particularly the flavored variety of almonds readily available in the market (jalapeno, cinnamon, barbecued, smoked, etc.). Even though almonds are not toxic, they are not easily digested and can give your dog an upset stomach and create gastric intestinal discomfort.
Black walnuts
Black Walnuts contain a toxic chemical substance called “Juglone” which can cause a vascular disease in horses known as “Laminitis” (Horse owners take note)! Black Walnuts don’t appear to cause those problems in dogs but they can result in gastric intestinal upset or an obstruction. So, mark it down on your list!
English walnuts
English walnuts can cause gastric intestinal upset (better known as tummy aches) or even an obstruction in your dog’s stomach!
Hickory nuts
Similar to Black Walnuts, Hickory nuts also contain the toxic chemical substance “Juglone” that can cause Laminitis in horses. Eating hickory nuts can cause the same problems associated with black walnuts: gastric intestinal upset or an intestinal obstruction. Like walnuts, moldy hickory nuts can contain Tremorgenic Mycotoxins which can cause seizures or neurological symptoms.
Japanese walnut
Thankfully Japanese walnuts contain no toxicity; But they still can cause gastric intestinal upset or even an obstruction in your dogs stomach.
